Safety

A safety reminder at our Trane facility in Trenton, N.J.

At American Standard, we want our people to return home at the end of each day the same way they came in: safe and healthy. We know that having a strong and healthy workforce means our people are motivated and productive. So we've developed a safety strategy that encompasses three important areas:

We continually work this strategy with the ultimate goal of becoming world-class in safety. We want to have zero injuries and illnesses.

Culture and People
Our culture is our shared set of attitudes, values, goals and practices. We work hard to build safety into the very fabric of our culture, so it's a part of everything we do.

We recognize the importance of our people, a critical part of our safety culture. Focusing on safety is the right thing to do for our people, because no one comes to work expecting to get hurt. So we are committed to creating a workplace that is above all things, safe.

Our people are truly engaged in safety, not simply treating it as a process to be learned or a set of rules to be followed. More than ever before, they are thinking of the safest ways to perform tasks, whether they work in our offices, our plants, our design centers or in sales and service roles.

To help focus our company on creating a safety culture, we've defined it and are working all of its elements in balance:

  1. Leadership commitment and drive
  2. Employee involvement
  3. Integration of safety and health considerations into all business plans and activities
  4. Drive to zero safety incidents using Six Sigma to help us get there

Processes
It's important that we follow the right safety processes to eliminate our risks and prevent injuries and illnesses. We have many processes in place, from safety compliance audits to ergonomic programs. Consistency in process among all our global locations adds strength and efficiency to our safety performance.

Safety Professionals
We have more than 350 global safety and health professionals in both manufacturing and sales and service operations across American Standard. And hundreds of our people volunteer as safety and health representatives in their work groups and on safety and health committees. They perform safety audits and help to find and fix safety and ergonomic problems.
